Project '69 part 3

In photo number 1 we see the 12 bolt rear end that is going into our 69 Camaro Stocker. It has traveled a lot. Before this photo was taken, I hauled it to Moser Engineering in Portland, Indiana. While at Moser (www.moserengineering.com) they welded the tubes to the case for strength. They arc welded it as the case is cast. Moser Enginnering has equipped all of my race cars. I walked in the back room at Moser and owner and founder, Greg Moser was busy working on a 814 cubic inch mountain motor. Greg campaigns two IHRA Mountain Motor equipped Pro Stocks, and he does very well. Moser stated that he hasn't raised prices since 1987 on anything that they manufacture. Moser Engineering is a very sucessful business. All the machines in the building, except the lathes were made by Greg Moser. Axle hole drillers, axle splinners, he even has a machine that can push a bearing on your axle in 4 seconds. Moser sells everything for your rear end set up and now they sell a complete rear end for your car completley set up with the gears in it that you want, even with the brakes on it you want. Moser has just ordered 2 semi loads of gears, so they won't run out in the busy time of the season. They are going to add another 20,000 square feet to the building. An a final note on Moser, make sure you buy his book a story of his life for $25.00 (includes shipping) and all the proceeds go to charity.
The photo also shows the rear end power-coated. A friend has a powder coating business and all my race cars have there rear ends powder-caoted, along with many other parts. It makes cleaning them much easier.
And the final item in the photo is the gear installation kit, sold by DTS. DTS stands for Drive Train Specialists they have 2 locations, one in Warren and a new one near Wayland, Michigan. The new location is run by good friend, Jay Prosch-Jensen. Again, Jay has set up all my rear ends and I have never had a problem . Jay has also helped me build all of my cars and is very sharp in all aspects of a race car or street car. The gear installation kit is the only installation kit that features all Timken bearings. And it is only available thru DTS. Jay can be reached at 616 877 0100 . He has shipped rear ends all over the world. A toll free number to there Warren office is 1 800 521 0628 or go to www.drivetrainspecialists.com and see what they have to offer.

In photo number 2 we see the pro, himself, Jay Prosch-Jensen of DTS-Wayland, MI. checking the rear gear back lash. It didn't take long before he had this 12 bolt ready to race. He is one of the best around. They are also a big Moser Axle dealer.

Photo 3 shows the Moser Axles for our 12 bolt. For a little extra he will cut off all the extra weight from the axle flanges as you can see in this photo. Cool. We also ordered the screw in 1/2" wheel studs for added safety. They ship 100's of axles every day.

Photo 4 shows a few more new items, in the front is our new traction bars, the hot item on the drag strip today, CalTracs. They are made at Calvert Racing at 661-948-1490 or go to www.calvertracing.com and look what they have to offer. We asked a lot of people and it was about 100 percent in favor of CalTracs. They are made of the highest quality parts and we will have more on them later. Also in this photo you can see our rear end cover. It is a TA Performance cover. There are other brands available, but this is the one we use on our other race cars that need a cover. They can be reached at 480-922-6807. They make covers for just about everything. It really adds a lot to the overall strength of the rear. And it has very well written instructions. Give the boys in Scottsdale a call. Another reason to buy the TA brand of cover, is because it directs the rear gear oil to the right places, rather than have the oil just fly around inside the cover.

Photo 5 shows what happens to me everytime SUMMIT sends me a new catalog, which is about once a month. While I was phoning in an order, the salesman told me about a sale on fender covers #SUM-3619 and a special on Summit Pit Mats #SUM G1028 . So I have 4 race cars with 8 fenders, so I ordered 8 fender covers and 4 pit mats. That was part of my Christmas present to myself and also in the photo you can see part of my wife's Christmas present. She got hardwood floors in her kitchen, hallway and formal dining room. Plus an oriental rug to cover it up. I found out how much some of these rugs cost. It would be A LOT of pit mats and fender covers. Summit is at 1800 230 3030 or www.summitracing.com

Photo 6 shows what I got for Christmas, and I got it a month early. It is the Waterloo Magun 2000 toolbox. It was shipped to where I work and I had it loaded onto one of our bigger trucks with a lift gate and hauled it home. It weighs 850 pounds, empty, WOW. Waterloo makes the best toolboxes and I finally have a place to put all the tools I have picked up over the years. In the backgound you can see from left to right, Old Red, Old Yellow and Blackie. All covered up waiting for spring.

Photo 7 shows everything I had to order from JAZ Products to fill up our new trailer that will haul the Camaro. Starting in back is 2- 5 gallon Jaz gas jugs, they are thicker than all of there competitors, next is there Torq-Tote , a torque convertor holder that you can keep your spare convertor in, plus use it to ship your convertor to be remanufactured at the end of the season. I have been using these for years. next is a Jaz radiator overflow catch can, JAZ seat belts, a tray that goes underneath your engine while it is on the engine stand. I use this for many things, such as a drip catcher while I am cleaning the brakes with brake clean, etc. Also in front is the JAZ siphon hose, unless you have ever used one, you won't believe how easy it works, Just shake the end up and down a few times and you can siphon gas from your 55 gallon drum to your JAZ 5 gallon jugs in no time. It works great. Go to www.jazproducts.com

In photo 8 we see all the great stuff from ARP Products, They have no competion in my mind. Why would you use anything else. We have EVERY fastener they make for a small block Chevy and they make everything. They are at 1-800-826-3045 and call them and order there new year 2000 Catalog and tech guide, it is full of information.

In photo 9 we see the Tavia adjustable timing pointer that we ordered from SUMMIT part number TAV-02350, it fits our Fluidampr 6 1/4 " damper. SUMMIT's number is 1800 230 3030 or go to www.summitracing.com

In photo 10 we see the Mallory electric fuel pump we are going to install. It comes with a fuel pressure regulator. It is part number # 4140 It is the Comp Pump series 140 electric fuel pump. It is ideal for high performance applications. It has a free flow rate of 140 gph and a factory set pressure of 12 pounds. You can find out more at www.mrgasket.com then click on the Mallory logo. Lots of stuff from Mr. Gasket and Mallory will be installed on this race car.

Any questions or ideas for this car, please e-mail me at 455@i2k.com thanks Phil
