In photo A we see the whole layout for the front brakes of my 1969 Camaro G/SA. Now that the IHRA/NHRA allows after market front and rear disk brakes I knew this was something we had to do. Stopping the 69 on even a long track was not that easy. With the addition of these WILWOOD brakes that I bought from www.moserengineering.com in Portland, Indiana it will and has made braking a lot better. Often you'll will see claims that it will cut 60 pounds off your race car, well I had to find out. The front stock brakes complete weight 33 pounds, and the front WILWOODS weight in at 20 so that was 13 pounds on the front. The stock rear brakes complete weight in at 44 pounds and the WILWOOD's complete weight in at 30 so that was 14 pounds for a total savings of 27 pounds. Plus after I got further in the project I realized the stock master cylinder won't cut it so I saved another pound there with another WILWOOD purchase. I bought everything from MOSER ENGINEERING as they had the best price and they are also one of WILWOOD's biggest dealers. Plus they are a great group of people. The none number for MOSER is 260-726-6689.
Photo B shows the stock front brakes that were basically all new and still didn't cut it in the brake department.
Photo C shows the MOSER ENGINEERING Axles and the stock brake set up. Again all brand new and still didn't cut it. In the background you can see my CAL TRACS by www.calvertracing.com and CAL TRAC rear leaf spring by www.calvertracing.com Also the QA1 Shocks by www.qa1.com. This car is deadly on 60 foot times.
Photo D shows the aftermarket brakes installed on the front. Looks are nice
and they work.
Photo E shows the rear installed and they work!
Photo F shows the braided stainless hoses I installed on the front and the rear. www.classictube.com Classic Tube at 1-800-882-3711 All you need to do is tell them what you HAD and what HAVE now. They will do the rest. The inlet for the new aftermarket calipers is 1/8 x 27 NPT and they will do the rest.
Photo G shows the carb I have to use in the newest race car I am building. A 4GC. I am going to use a late model Camaro or Firebird and put in a 283 Super Stock Motor. The high revving small block puts out a lot of Horsepower with the roller cam, porting and pistons work. I have a past record holding engine purchased and this is the carb I'll have to use. This one was rebuilt by Dean Oliver of DEANO'S Racing Carbs. His website is at www.holsfan.com/deano and his phone number is 1-870-673-3580. Besides the 4GC carb he is also an expert on the Quadrajet. He has MANY record holding cars using his carbs and I think his famous Indy-winning father, Dennis Oliver had something to do with it. This thing is a work of art. It has all the NHRA/IHRA legal tricks done to it.
Photo H shows the new spark plugs that I have switched to for the 2003 racing season. Go to www.DensoIridium.com and see what the word is on the LATEST spark plug out. I first read about them in a magazine that was having a horsepower contest. It was your choice on spark plugs and the top three finishers had the new DENSO Iridium plugs installed. Well that should mean something. So we now have them in all the race cars, and we won the FIRST WEEK OUT with them. The white Camaro beat everyone after 7 rounds of racing.
Photo I shows some of the braided hose we needed with all the carb changes and fuel pump changes over the winter. www.jazproducts.com is where I go for EVERYTHING braided. They can also be reached by telephone at 1-800-525-8133 More good news on JAZ. They are going to finally come out with a carb holder. I have four spare carbs and I hate keeping them in carb board boxes. After three years of complaining they are finally going to make them soon.
Photo J shows the aluminum stud girdles that we are going to use in our newest race car. These are part number 66951 for the 7/16" stud and they also make one for a 3/8" stud, number 66950 They also make a killer one for a big block Chevy #66981. These are all made by PROFORM Parts. They can be reached at 1-586-774-2500 or go to www.proformparts.com they have a lot of dealers and they have a great website. I check it once a month to see what NEW products they are coming up with. I just looked a few minutes ago and they have a great deal on a new cherry picker (look at the wheels) and a great heavy duty engine stand (again, look at the HD wheels)
Photo K shows my latest purchase (birthday money) a heavy duty bench top spring tester. They have a 300 pound tester # 66774 or I bought the 700 pound tester #66775 (for my www.competitionproducts.com CONGO Springs that I need in my 455 Olds engines.) You can either mount this on your bench or clamp it in you vise. It also has a built in ruler for spring heights. With one or eight engines this is a must have if you do you own head work or valve spring testing.
